More than 7000 Army personnel have been deployed in flood-affected areas in the Wanni, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa districts for rescue and relief operations. This was reviled by the Director Media Army Brigadier Jayanath Jayweera while speaking at the media briefing held at the Media Centre, today (22nd December)

With the coordination of District Secretariats, Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and the Disaster Management Centre, have launched an emergency contingency plan for rescue and relief operations in the Wanni,Trincomali and Anuradhapura districts.

Army relief teams have rescued 1100 detainees in Anuradhapura prison building which was submerged in flood water. Meanwhile Army has deployed troops to rescue 75 Muslims trapped in Wanathavilluwa in Puttalam.
