Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka says he and Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) member Udaya Gammanpila will resign from their ministerial portfolios in cabinet and provincial levels.

Speaking at a press conference today, Champika stated that he will step down from the post of Minister of Technology and Research and Western Provincial Councilor Udaya Gammanpila from the post of Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Cultural Affairs and Environment with effect from today.

He stated that the decision was unanimously reached by the JHU’s central committee and parliamentary group yesterday (Nov. 17).

The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), a coalition partner of the ruling UPFA alliance, has been pushing for the abolishing of the Executive Presidency and several constitutional amendments.
